The oldest trophy that the Club owns is engraved; 'Llandudno Town Regatta 1868' This is a pewter, glass bottom tankard which is now designated as the Easter Tankard and traditonally sailed for on Easter Sunday. The first Boatmen's Regatta was held in Llandudno Bay in 1885. In 1888, prizes were offered for the race winners of the open or decked sailing boats, four and pair oared boats in a number of different classes. The 'And Sports' included Swimming, Greasy Pole, Tug-of-War and Blind Fold races. Click on the images for larger versions (opens in a new browser window).
The half-rater 'Gwen' (shown left) was sailing in 1889 crewed by Llandudno Sailing Club members George Roberts, W. Boulding and Shed Roberts. The Grand Hotel and Pier can be seen in the background.
In its early days, Llandudno Sailing Club used the Welsh dragon as the emblem on its crest. The current emblem was adopted in the late 1900's
